STUDENT TRANSPORTATION

The school district under provisions of state law and regulations will provide transportation for pupils. All students residing within the district but outside the city limits of Harrisburg, NE shall be eligible to be transported to and from school at district expense.

Students in grades PK-8 must be met at the bus stop by a parent or authorized responsible individual.

Students who are legally licensed to drive may leave the bus stop in their own vehicle and transport siblings with written permission by the parent or guardian.

If a parent or authorized responsible individual is not at the bus stop to receive a student in grades PK-8 and cannot be reached by telephone, the student may remain on the bus for additional runs and then be either returned to school or brought to the local police department to ensure their safety.

All requests for a change in a student’s regular assigned route must be made in writing directly to the School Secretary and approved by the Transportation Coordinator.

Any change to a student’s daily bus route must be made to the School Secretary before 3:00pm, in the absence of an emergency.

Parents of students who live where transportation by bus is impracticable or unavailable, or who do not comply with the terms of the Student Transportation policy, may be required to furnish transportation to and from the designated attendance center at the expense of the school district. Those parents who transport their children at the expense of the school district shall be reimbursed in accordance with state statute.

A student may be required, at the board's discretion, to meet a school vehicle without reimbursement up to three-fourths of a mile. The board may require the parent to transport their children up to two miles to connect with school bus vehicles at the expense of the school district when conditions deem it advisable. It shall be within the discretion of the board to determine such conditions.

The school district may provide transportation to Option students on the same basis as resident students.
