Board of Education Meeting
Monday, July 8, 2024
Notice of the Monday, July 8, 2024, Board of Education Regular Meeting was posted at the
entrance to the school, the Banner County Court House, the Harrisburg Post Office, Banner Capital
Bank, in the Western Nebraska Observer, and on the school website.
Call to Order
The regular May meeting of the Banner County School District Board of Education was called to
order at 7:05PM in the School Cafeteria, 200 School Street, Harrisburg, Nebraska.
The Nebraska Open Meetings Act was posted on the wall.
Pledge of Allegiance
President Ron Johnson invited members and guests to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call/Welcome
Present: Megan Allen, Laura Baker, Ronald Johnson, Jake Knaub, and Ryan Olsen.
Also present: Evelyn Browne, Superintendent/BOE Secretary and Troy Holmberg, Principal.
Motion to excuse BOE member Douglas Olsen from the July 8th, 2024 regular meeting of the
Banner County BOE. Passed with a motion by Ronald Johnson and a second by Laura Baker.

Approval of Agenda
Approve the agenda for the July 8th, 2024 Regular Meeting of the Banner County Board of
Education with one change to table the County Commissioners presentation to the August 12,
2024 BOE meeting. Passed with a motion by Laura Baker and a second by Megan Allen.

Superintendent
Community
I attended the Western Region - 6 Regions, One Nebraska Kickoff Meeting on Monday,
June 24. I have committed to working on the "Linking education and workforce" priority to
develop a regional project to support economic growth and development.
I offered obsolete items for sale at the Historical Society garage sale on June 22 - netting
$580 for the district.
Facilities & Transportation
-Roof final inspection on Thursday, July 11
-Window installation started.
Student Programs & Enrollment
-Current 2024-2025 Enrollment PK = 7; K-5= 63; 6-8= 25; 9-12=35, LL=1, VALTS=1; PBDT=1

June 26 th
Professional Development
We have teachers in this week for training on the new Social Studies series (Savvas) and for the
new ELA series in grades 6-12 (myPerspectives).
We have teachers in next week for training on Reading Mastery Transformations. Reading Mastery
is utilized in grades K-5.
JAG Visit
Samantha Pavelka, the JAG Region 6 Coordinator, and Danielle Villagrana, Banner County JAG
teacher met with the administration on July 2 nd . We are looking forward to Danielle being part of
our team and appreciate Samantha’s background in education.

Open House menu confirmed for August 15th, 2024 at 5:00PM.

Approve 1st reading revisions to policies 201.02, 204.07, 204.12, 206.02, 402.03, 409.01, 502.02,
502.03, 503.04, 504.03, 504.06, 607.10, 611.02, 611.07, 802.05, 1003.00 and new policy 905.04 as
presented. Passed with a motion by Ronald Johnson and a second by Laura Baker.
