Job Description, Bus Driver
The bus driver will be assigned, supervised, and evaluated by the transportation supervisor. His or her duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:
I. Passing annual state required licensing and physical examinations as set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. Possessing a valid Nebraska School Bus Drivers Permit.
II. Abiding by the regulations as set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles and operating the school vehicle in a safe and legal manner at all times.
III. Maintaining the cleanliness of the school vehicle inside and out.
IV. Maintaining discipline of student riders.
V. Performing those pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as prescribed by the school district.
VI. Communicating immediately to the transportation supervisor any problems concerning a vehicle's operation, patron complaints, or student discipline problems.
VII. Maintaining a cooperative working relationship with all personnel, students, and patrons.
VIII. Conducting school bus evacuation drills as prescribed by school district policy. Being familiar with the school district's transportation accident procedures regulation.
IX. Cooperating with the administration in making the transportation system as economical and serviceable as possible.
X. Performing such other tasks and duties as may be assigned.
XI. Possessing strong leadership, communication, and disciplinary skills in order to promote safe bussing conditions.
XII. Minimum physical requirements: Having the ability to perform the physical activities and work in the environment conditions as follows:
A. Requires prolonged sitting and the use of equipment.
B. Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, turning, balancing, and reaching.
C. Requires driving.
D. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
E. Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
F. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
G. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
XIII. Minimum educational preparation requirements:
A. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
B. Attend training sessions, pass written tests, and physical examination, and possess a Nebraska's school bus driver's permit covering the type of vehicle assigned to.
C. Previous bus or truck driving experience preferred.
D. Some motor mechanical knowledge helpful.
